Agreement Signed with Hochschule Niederrhein (Germany)

On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Vice President for International Affairs Prof. Dr. Shochi visited Hochschule Niederrhein in Mönchengladbach, Germany. During the visit, he signed an agreement with President Prof. Dr. Susanne Meyer.

Hochschule Niederrhein is one of Germany’s leading universities of applied sciences, with four campuses in Mönchengladbach and Krefeld. The university developed alongside the region’s textile industry. Its campuses offer an appealing blend of historic brick buildings and modern facilities.

During the visit, Prof. Dr. Shochi toured several research institutes, including the Institute for Business Process Management and IT (GEMIT), where he met Prof. Dr. Kristina Rosenthal, and the Niederrhein Institute for Regional and Structural Research (NIERS), where he met Prof. Dr. Angelika Krehl. He also learned about the institutes’ interdisciplinary research and collaboration across informatics, economics, and business management. The group visited the HNX Entrepreneurship Lab, which supports student start-ups, as well as the Mixed Reality Lab and DigiLab. Hochschule Niederrhein offers a wide range of courses taught in English at both the undergraduate and master’s levels and places a strong emphasis on fostering entrepreneurship.

The visit also included meetings with Associate Professor Sue Rossano-Rivero, International Coordinator for the Faculty of Economics, and Professor Martin Wenke, Dean of Studies in the Faculty of Economics. The group had lunch with Ms. Nina Kohl, the incoming coordinator, and toured the student dormitories, gaining a broader understanding of the university and student life.

The Düsseldorf area, where the university is located, is home to many Japanese companies. Taking advantage of this location, the two universities will explore a new exchange program in which students spend one semester taking courses related to their field of study and the other completing an internship at a Japanese company in the region. This would expand the exchange beyond a conventional study-abroad program.

Building on this agreement, we look forward to further strengthening cooperation between our two universities, particularly through student exchange.
